INTERVIEW // Molly Burch

What was the last thing that made you laugh?

The sleeping positions my cat chose last night. One was a hard lay across my neck. Cat people will understand this.

What’s your biggest motivation to get up in the morning?

Honestly, coffee.

(If it’s a different answer than the one above) What’s the best part of your day?

Taking bike rides around my neighborhood.

Do you enjoy writing songs alone or with others?

100% alone! It’s such a vulnerable act. I definitely prefer to write alone because I don’t want to look like a fool in front of someone. But writing with others is cool too.

Could you tell a favorite childhood memory?

I grew up in LA and every Sunday we would go to this delicatessen in Beverly Hills called Nate ‘n Al’s with my grandmother. The hostess would give us bagels on strings to wear as necklaces and eat while we waited for a table. Such cozy times.

Do you remember your dreams?

Yes I remember my dreams and I definitely am the type of person who will tell my friends about them, especially if they are featured. I was literally just telling my friend I had a dream about him and he was kissing himself. He has yet to text me back.

Do you remember the title of the first song you wrote?

Yes! But I don’t want to tell you on the small chance you can find it on the internet somehow.

Coffee or Tea? Why?

Coffee all the way. Because I’m “addicted” to it?

Who do you look up to?

My older sister Samy.

Were you good at math in school?

I was really good at pre-algebra and geometry. HORRIBLE at pre-calculus? Couldn’t tell ya what any of those are now…

What’s your favorite part about making music?

Singing makes me the happiest. It brings me confidence and joy. And you usually get to make music with friends, and what is more fun than that?

If you could choose any animal to be a pet, which one would you choose?

These are pets but I would love a pet pig.

If you could be any animal what animal would you be?

A bear because they hibernate and are cozy as hell.

What’s the strangest part of life?

Well, I would have to say…this current pandemic.

Do you believe in aliens?

I don’t think about this often but yes I do.

What music have you been listening to lately?

Fiona Apple’s new album Fetch The Bolt Cutters, Dua Lipa, and Camila Cabello.
