Lomah Interview

What moments are you trying to capture?
I simply capture the beauty that I see around me. Framing and freezing a moment in time through my eyes.

Do you have a good story from taking any of these pictures?
I only began shooting last year. I was in Sinai when I really experimented with it for the first time. I had so much fun shooting the roll there, was so excited to get back to Tel Aviv to develop and see what I had captured. When I arrived at the store, I was heartbroken to be told that I had loaded the film in wrong and no pictures had been taken. I looked at the bright side – at least I had another 32 pictures to take and I learned from my mistake for the future!

Are you looking for anything specific when shooting?
I am amazed by light, so I’m always looking for interesting shades and shapes.

What makes the city the shooting so beautiful?
I like to shoot all over the country which is actually very easy here. I can be anywhere in the country within around 4 hours – and there is such vast differences in landscape from place to place which makes it very interesting and inspiring to shoot. Tel Aviv in particular is a very vibrant, alive city, there’s a lot of hustle and bustle but I try to spot the quiet beauty in the surroundings.

Were you born in Tel Aviv?
Not born and raised in London. I moved to Tel Aviv 8 years ago.

What’s the best memory you have with your camera?
Good memories so far, we are still in our honeymoon period. It’s early days for us, I’m sure we will have lots of memories to come though.

Do you remember how you got your first camera?
I remember having a Fisher Price camera as a toddler which I was obsessed with. I bought a Holga after my first backpacking trip but only shot two rolls on it.
After that, I invested in a Canon SLR which I played around with for a few months but then was put away in the back of the closet for 7 years.

Then around a year ago and half ago I bought my Nikon FG in NYC spontaneously. It wasn’t until the start of the pandemic that I actually started using it, with lots more free time I decided to start experimenting. In March it will be a year since I started, and I feel that film is for the long haul!

Was there ever a photo that got away?
I am a live music promoter in Israel, I’ve produced some of the major international shows in the past 5 years from Guns N Roses, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Alanis, Britney just to name a few. So I’m pretty gutted that I didn’t get into shooting film earlier on so I could have captured moments from the stage and behind the scenes. We will be back to life soon enough though and I now have the added excitement of getting to shoot there on top!
