Taken from Pitchfork and written by Noah Yoo

HBO has announced a new Tina Turner documentary, TINA, which arrives March 27 and will air on the channel in addition to streaming on HBO Max. Directed by Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin, the new film follows the singer’s initial rise to stardom and her remarkable career resurgence in the 1980s, as well as her private struggles as a survivor of abuse at the hands of ex-husband/collaborator Ike Turner. The movie is set to feature a “stunning amount of archival footage spanning 60 years” as well as interviews with Turner herself, in addition to figures such as Angela Bassett, husband/former record exec Erwin Bach, Oprah Winfrey, and others.

Earlier today, Turner was announced as nominee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2021. She was previously inducted alongside Ike Turner in 1991. Find where her 1984 solo album Private Dancer landed on our list of the 200 Best Albums of the 1980s.
